Kalye Serye Cebu: The Passenger

It was a particularly tiring Sunday when I felt that I needed to get up and do something before my bed ate me awake again. I was supposed to join a night photowalk but it was cancelled due to impending bad weather. But I had another plan.

Along with some of my blogger friends, I set out to the city to have a mini-photowalk. Guess what? It didn't rain, at all. I knew it was going to be dark as soon as I'd arrive and the city lights would be great subjects to photograph. But I didn't bring my tripod again, lol.

It was almost Christmas so the holiday traffic was terrible that I couldn't get a ride to our meet-up place. I nearly gave up and went home. But glad I didn't.

The thing with street photographs is that I rarely get them perfectly. In about a hundred shots, only very few of them make the cut and those that make the cut aren't even perfect. But I've learned that most of my best shots are those that tell a story.

*Composition is not good. But I like the story behind it. ;)

As I'm still in the process of learning the technical aspects of photography, I take pride in taking photos that I can call my own -- those that show interesting beauty and tell an interesting story.

So as mentioned, I was extra tired that night since I had to attend my friend's birthday party the night before and I went home at dawn. I wasn't really in my element even though I thought I was. Sometimes you will feel that, and so I just took advantage of whatever strength I had that night.

Here's what happened (singing to the tune of one of my current favorites). And you will know later why the title is The Passenger.

♪♫ Well you only need the light when it's burning low
Only miss the sun when it starts to snow

Only know you love her when you let her go...

Only know you've been high when you're feeling low
Only hate the road when you're missing home

Only know you love her when you let her go
And you let her go

Staring at the bottom of your glass
Hoping one day you'll make a dream last
But dreams come slow and they go so fast

You see her when you close your eyes
Maybe one day you'll understand why
Everything you touch surely dies

Staring at the ceiling in the dark
Same old empty feeling in your heart
Cause love comes slow and it goes so fast

Well you see her when you fall asleep
But never to touch and never to keep
Cause you loved her too much and you dived too deep

Only know you've been high when you're feeling low
Only hate the road when you're missing home
Only know you love her when you let her go

And you let her go... ♪♫

Kalye Serye, formerly Snapshots Saturday, is a weekly blog series featuring my street photography venture. Kalye (street) and Serye (series) aims to build and promote social awareness in the community and the world by creating and sharing meaningful photographs.

Street photography is mainly the act of taking photos candidly which doesn't necessarily have to happen in the streets all the time. Read more about it here - Why Street Photography?
