There's no doubt that travel is one of the most amazing, exciting things that you could ever do. It helps to open your mind to new possibilities as well as allowing you to discover places and cultures you might never have even realized existed. There's a reason that so many people consider travel to be the best possible thing that you could possibly spend your money on.

However, that doesn't mean that things are always perfect whenever you go traveling. As with just about anything in this world, there are always things that potentially go wrong. Of course, the best thing that you can do in order to avoid something going really wrong is to be as prepared as possible.

Here are some of the most common travel disasters that you may experience, and how to best avoid them.

Running out of money

This is one of those things that filled even the most seasoned traveler with complete and utter dread. Let's face it; even the cheapest travel isn't going to be free, and you need money in order to get by pretty much anywhere in the world. If you run out of money, it can not only make it difficult to enjoy your trip but can potentially leave you stranded somewhere unfamiliar with no way to get home.

The best thing to do is to make sure that you always have some kind of access to some emergency funds. Check with your bank about the kinds of charges that usually come with using credit or debit cards in another country. You may find that there are certain cards that come with discounts, or even no charges at all when you're traveling.

Not having the right gear

Arriving at your destination only to realize that you don't have all of the gear that you need is the kind of thing that keeps many people up at night. The only real way to make sure that this doesn't happen is to plan everything as carefully as possible. Make clear lists of all the things that you think you're going to need.

One of the most important things that you need is something to carry all of your stuff. Finding the right bag for your travel needs can be tricky, but this Teton Scout 3400 review can give you a good idea of where to start. Also, if you're not sure what to take, it's always best to err on the side of caution. Better to be safe than sorry after all.

Getting sick

Getting sick is unpleasant at the worst of times, but when you're traveling, it can be something of a disaster. Not only are you away from the comfort of home but it's hard to know exactly what the medical care will be wherever you find yourself. The best thing to do is look into travel insurance and figure out what kind of health insurance options come with it.

The last thing you want is to find yourself sick without any hope of getting the treatment or care that you really need.
