Kalye Serye Maynila: When In Baclaran

Baclaran Church

When there's a chance to go out, explore, and take photos - I'd gladly take it. Last week, I only had about 2 days and 1 night in Manila for the Vivo V5 Grand Launch. We were housed in Nobu Hotel, City of Dreams in Parañaque which made it convenient to sneak in a quick photowalk in Baclaran.

We arrived in Manila on a Wednesday but our day was packed because of the grand launch. Our check out time from the hotel was at 12 noon the next day (Thursday) but our flight back to Cebu was still at 6:30 pm. By 9:30 am right after breakfast, we walked our way to Baclaran Church to explore. It was my first time there and I have to say I found it quite interesting.

The church is also known as the National Shrine of Our Mother of Perpetual Help or Redemptorist Church. It is said to be one of the largest Marian churches in the Philippines bearing the icon of Our Mother of Perpetual Help. They say that people flock there every Wednesday to attend the novena mass. They call it "Baclaran Day".

*Hello there, kid.

There was a mass going on when we arrived so we were discreet when taking photos. I was also busy observing people around the church (observing as I always do). By the way, we didn't go there to attend the mass so you might be asking why I was just observing people and taking photos. ;)

For this week's Kalye Serye, I'm featuring my snapshots of Baclaran. I decided to leave my DSLR in the hotel and just use my phone to take photos. It's been a while since I went full-on mobile. All photos were taken using Oppo F1s and enhanced through VSCO. (And I just realized now that most of my photos here are vertical.)

Not a lot of talking from me this time. I'll let the photos speak for themselves. ♥

We headed back to the hotel at 11 am with only one hour before check out! With our short walk to Baclaran, I felt that I needed to see more of it. I don't often fly to Manila because the idea of traffic (which is more or less worse than Cebu but they say Cebu is worse now) and pollution turns me off. I love the province more than the city.. but our stay in Manila was actually a good one. Special thanks to Vivo Philippines, EON, and Nobu Hotel. So maybe, just maybe.. next time I'll explore more. ;)

But, but, but - let me know which photo above intrigued you! Thanks for reading.

Kalye Serye, formerly Snapshots Saturday, is a weekly blog series featuring my street photography venture. Kalye (street) and Serye (series) aims to build and promote social awareness in the community and the world by creating and sharing meaningful photographs.

Street photography is mainly the act of taking photos candidly which doesn't necessarily have to happen in the streets all the time. Read more about it here - Why Street Photography?
