[June Challenge] Work Toward Your Dreams
June 23, 2016
I don't know why at some point, quitting blogging comes across my mind. Maybe because I tend to think a lot these days. The truth is -- overthinking has probably been a recurring behavior since I had a child.
It comes with being a mother I guess - when you don't really think of yourself anymore. Or you consider your child's needs and dreams first before your own. I have dreams for my son, for myself, and my little family. But this month, I took one of the first steps in fulfilling my personal dream.
"Why wait for opportunity to come knocking? Be pro-active and make things happen for yourself! Set your own goals and timelines, work toward your dreams at your own pace considering what's feasible, and don't wait for anyone else before you start. Go out there and start making them happen!"
This time, I already know that dreams don't just magically unfold before your eyes without doing anything. I think that waiting unnecessarily for anyone before starting to work on your dreams is like missing out on all the wonderful things that you could have experienced in life.
Maybe in some cases, other people make dreams happen for other people. Maybe. But that isn't always the case. So for me the point is to start making your dreams happen. They may not happen right now, and right away.. but at least you are already making small steps towards them.
And as the famous quote goes, the only thing that stands between you and your dreams is the will to try and the belief that it is actually possible.
It is my long overdue dream to travel outside the country. And so this month I started making it happen by finally booking a ticket! Tickets - because I'm going with my 2 friends. This travel dream has been in the works for about 2 years now. It never really happened because I'm always either very, very concerned of leaving my son for a long time, I'm stuck working my ass off, or I'm too broke to even get out of the house.
But now I finally have the time because I'm already working online (home-based), my son is relatively older (he's five), and well, I still don't have a lot of money to travel but I am saving for it because I really wanted to fulfill it this year. Why? Not because I'm a travel blogger wannabe, but because I am quite hungry and thirsty for a different kind of cultural adventure. And because, why not?
Months and months of blur and unsure planning have finally made sense. I really, really hope for the best experience. But as they say, just enjoy and don't expect too much so that you can keep the excitement alive.
This October, my friends and I are traveling to 3 Asian countries, including one of my dream destinations. And I couldn't be more excited for the start of my travel dreams. I'm actually smiling right now. ;)
*Took this photo on my first time to be on the window seat. ;)
What dreams are you working on this month?
